A Unique, Experience-based Perspective

With his experience in both the office-furnishings and information-technology industries, Edge Office founder Michael Kerr brings a uniquely balanced perspective to the creation of appealing, cost-effective, productivity-enhancing workplace environments. Edge Office began in 2004, when Michael, then general manager of the RTP-area operations of Business Resource Group (BRG) and already a veteran in the industry, acquired the business from BRG.

Michael began his career in the workplace-furnishings industry as a product engineer at Steelcase, where he managed a corporate-wide value-engineering program and became a senior commodity manager. He subsequently served as vice president of operations for the Seattle-based Bank & Office Interiors (B&OI) division of BKM Enterprises, Steelcase’s largest distributor. He then became a corporate vice president at HON Industries, another leading manufacturer of office furnishings, where he was general manager of their Chandler Attwood division.

In addition to his extensive experience in the office furnishings industry, Michael also has experience in information technology (IT) businesses, including his role as co-founder and COO of TekSell, a venture-funded business-to-business (B2B) exchange for IT equipment, where he helped secure the initial venture-capital funding. He also served as the first dedicated sales professional at Ultimus, a pioneer in business process management and workflow automation software, where he was responsible for North American sales. Michael is a licensed professional engineer with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University and also holds an MBA in General Management from Western Michigan University.
